Drug addict passed out in alley
Rep. Eric Cantor

-Headline of the day-
"GOP Leader Rep. Eric Cantor Predicts Republican Landslide in 2010."

I'm not sure I approve of the House Republican Whip using drugs. What kind of example does that set for the kids? I can picture it now, teens all over the country shooting up goofballs or speedballs or spitballs or whatever it is these kids use these days, while saying, "I want to be cool -- like House Minority Whip Eric Cantor! He's the bomb or the word or whatever!"

"I really believe we've got a shot at taking back this House because you see what's gone on here with the unfettered ability of this administration and Nancy Pelosi to run this Congress," Cantor told ABC News. "The American people see that this agenda is way far out of the mainstream. They want a check and a balance on this power. And I think at the end of the day that's what rules come November 2010."

For the record, at the end of the day, it'll still be June 2009.

Unfortunately for the Whip, ABC News has the facts on hand and they don't make Cantor's Nostradamus act look very convincing. According to an ABC poll, "only 21 percent of voters identify themselves as Republicans -- a 26-year low. In the same poll, Republicans in Congress had an approval rating of 30 percent, compared with 45 percent for congressional Democrats." So I'm not sure what "mainstream" Eric's picturing in his drug-addled brain. Republicans would need to switch 40 seats to retake the House in '10.

If anyone reading this knows Eric Cantor personally, I suggest staging an intervention. Those wiffleballs or nerfballs or whatever are a helluva drug. (ABC News)

-More bad news for Druggie Cantor-
On top of ABC's poll showing doom for the GOP, Gallup also has a poll showing Republicans think their party sucks. Asked, "What comes to mind when you think of the Republican Party?" respondents came up with some pretty interesting answers from Republicans and GOP leaners. If you add all the negative answers up, they make up one-third of the respondents.

Unfavorable 19%
Lost their way/ no direction 9%
Cater to rich 1%
Close-minded/ not open to new ideas 3%
Cater to big business 1%

Oddly, two responses that weren't considered negative were "Poor economic conditions (1%)" and "George Bush (1%)." I guess GWB handing President Obama an economic clusterfuck could be something other than negative, but I'm not sure what else it would be.

What was the top response? "Conservative" by 21%. I guess if you can't say anything nice, you don't say anything that's not freakin' obvious. (Plumline)

-Bonus HotD-
"Gay-Hating Boob Job Fired From Ms. California Job."

That's right, America's top advocate of opposite-marriage and the Vice President to Miss America has been canned. Turns out, if you want to be Miss California and the first runner-up to Miss America, you've got to do crazy stuff like show up to work -- which Carrie Prejean didn't. Hell, I didn't know that. Why would anyone expect Carrie to?

Anyway, CNN's reporting that Prejean was fired for "'contract violations,' including missing scheduled pageant events." She even got yelled at by Donald Trump, who owns her soul or slave contract or something like that.

"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California USA organization, and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump said. "Unfortunately, it just doesn't look like it is going to happen, and I offered [state pageant Executive Director Keith Lewis] my full support in making this decision."

I swear I will hunt down and end the first person who makes a "The Apprentice/you're fired" joke. This is serious business. Who will save us from the Homosexual Menace now? (Wonkette)
