Man in padded cell, straitjacket
Rep. Steve King (R-IA)

-Headline of the day-
"Steve King: Immigrants Aren't 'Real Americans If They Love Taxes.'"

Rep. Steve King continues to give Shelly Bachmann a run for her money in the race to see who can be the most batshit-crazy Republican in Washington.

According to the report, "This week, crowds of peaceful immigration reform supporters gathered outside post offices in several cities bearing signs with slogans stating 'We Love Taxes!' and 'Viva Taxes!' in an effort to demonstrate that there are millions of undocumented immigrants who are eager for a chance to be brought into American civil society and pay taxes as part of their civic duty. Advocates also submitted thousands of blank tax forms to federal lawmakers that could've been filled out to by undocumented immigrants who have the capacity to generate billions in tax revenue."

Well, Stevie wasn't going to let that slide. He's been on a bender about the IRS since he got into office and he's none to fond of immigrants -- documented or otherwise. "Oh man. How do they come up with this?" he asked. "They won't be real Americans if they love taxes." Seems like a weird immigration policy to me -- only allow people to become citizens if they say they'd hate to pay for the privilege -- but then again, I'm not trying to be the Grand Old Party's most insane member.

This was after he practically tried to beat up a reporter for Think Progress. See, King had previously expressed sympathy with a domestic terrorist kamikaze who'd crashed into an IRS building (killing two) and said reporter was asking him if he still thought that'd be an awesome thing to do. I guess he does.

Watch out Shelly! Steve King's about to take that "Craziest GOPer in the Snakepit" sash away from you. (Think Progress)

-Cartoon time with Mark Fiore-
Hey kids, Uncle Mark won himself a Howitzer Prize (or something like that) -- yay for Mark Fiore! Turns out some people thought he ought to get a medal for his "biting wit, extensive research and ability to distill complex issues set a high standard for an emerging form of commentary," so they went and gave him one.
